Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery Policy Explainer

Current

This policy explainer covers Discord’s policy on non-consensual intimate imagery and includes information about the steps available to all people in the United States (with or without a Discord account) under the TAKE IT DOWN Act.

Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery

At Discord, we take a firm stance against the creation, posting, sharing, and distribution of sexually explicit or sexually suggestive content of other people without their knowledge or consent. More information about how Discord defines sexually explicit and suggestive content can be found in our Sexual Content Policy Explainer.

The term non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) refers to media involving a person over the age of 18 in a nude, sexually suggestive, or sexually explicit situation that was taken or created without that individual’s explicit knowledge or consent. Sometimes referred to as “revenge porn”, “non-consensual pornography”, or “image-based sexual abuse”, NCII includes:

  • Digital media of sexually explicit media created using hidden cameras,
  • Sexually suggestive imagery secretly taken without the subject’s knowledge, sometimes referred to as "creepshots" or “upskirting”.
  • Non-consensual sexualization of an individual or individuals (sometimes referred to as “tributes”) without their explicit consent or knowledge.
  • Non-consensually created media depicting sexual assault or sexual violence.
  • Machine or AI-generated sexual imagery, sometimes referred to as "deepfakes".
  • Imagery obtained and reproduced without permission from paywalled sexually explicit or sexually suggestive content sites. Paywalled content refers to content that is exclusive to the people paying for it.

The term non-consensual sharing or distribution of adult intimate imagery means sharing sexually explicit or suggestive media involving a person over the age of 18 without that person's knowledge or consent. The media may have been originally obtained or created with consent (for example, within the context of a private or intimate relationship), or without consent.

This policy covers the content of adults only. For content involving minors, please refer to our Teen and Child Safety Policy Explainer. You can also refer to the guidance below on reporting NCII in the United States under the TAKE IT DOWN Act. NCII involving children or teens will be enforced as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). For more information, please refer to our Teen and Child Safety Policy Explainer.

In order to protect victims and survivors and stop the proliferation of NCII, we will remove reported instances of this content.

We take threats to create, share, or distribute NCII on or via Discord seriously. This includes threats to share NCII unless a financial or other demand is met, which is commonly known as “sexual extortion”, or “sextortion”.

For example, you may not post, share, or engage in: [sensitive language content warning]

How to Avoid Violating These Policies

Please leave and report servers dedicated to any of the violative content described above. Discord may take action against accounts that are present in violative servers.

  • Do not post or share NCII — even as a joke or out of anger or concern
  • We understand consent can change at any time. If you do not have explicit and informed consent of the subject who is depicted in the content wholly or in part (for example, the image is AI-generated media) — do not post it.
  • If you find yourself in a server that is sharing this type of content, report it and remove yourself from the space.

How to Report Violations of These Policies

Reporting safety violations is critically important to keeping you and the broader Discord community safe. All Discord users can report policy violations in the app by following the instructions here. For more information on this policy, please reference our Community Guidelines #10.

How to Report NCII in the United States under the TAKE IT DOWN Act

Starting May 19, 2026, people located in the United States (with or without a Discord account) can request that Discord remove real or artificially created nude or sexually explicit images of themselves or someone they’re authorized to represent, that were shared without consent under the TAKE IT DOWN Act.

You can find the report form at discord.com/report. Help and additional information on how to fill out the form can be found here.

Requests to remove NCII depicting minors can also be made using the report form under the TAKE IT DOWN Act. However, please note that if Discord determines a reported image constitutes Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), we will take appropriate enforcement action and report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Users who post this content are permanently banned from Discord.

Child Sexual Abuse Material (sexual content involving anyone under the age of 18) can also be reported through our in app reporting function. For more information, please refer to our Teen and Child Safety Policy Explainer.
